States materialized after indie-scene favorites, Copeland, disbanded. Guitarist brothers Bryan and Stephen Laurenson began conceptualizing their new creative musical venture and the duo acquired Mindy White, formerly of Lydia. She stepped out from her usual position behind a keyboard, lending her endearingly captivating vocals to the project. Upon hearing the early mixes, ex-Copeland drummer Jonathan Bucklew and bassist Dean Lorenz joined the lineup and filled out the sound.

The group was hard at work producing indie pop gems worthy of a structured release. States provided the perfect introductory preview of what they have in store with their debut EP, “Line ‘Em Up.” Soon after the release States embarked on their first tour opening for Anberlin.

States again hit the studio but this time with producer Aaron Sprinkle at the Compound Recording Studios in Seattle, Washington to record debut LP “Room to Run.” The full length showcases the bands growth and self-discovery, layering the deliciously melodic pop-rock instrumentation with graceful vocals and heartfelt lyrics.

“We’re doing what we wanted and we’ll take the band where’s is supposed to go,” White explains, a child-like joy and smile marks her statement. It’s in the creative freedom that “Room to Run” acts as a story of the band itself. “I know there is a purpose in us finding each other.”

States new album “Room to Run” drops October 18th, the band will be touring in support of the new release with Circa Survive and Maps & Atlases.

over the past week or so we’ve been going through the mixing process for our new album and things are sounding amazing. Over the next two months, On Letting Go, Juturna, and Inuit Sessions will be available on 12″ vinyl.  On Letting Go features translucent blue with black swirl vinyl within original CD artwork packaging.  Juturna is pressed on translucent green with white swirl vinyl and features original CD artwork.  Lastly, The Inuit Sessions vinyl is pressed on light pink with an etched b-side within original CD artwork.

The band has also announced that after several years with Equal Vision, they have moved on to sign with Atlantic Records.
