Much of the footage, shot by McMahon and his family, addresses his struggle in coping with the disease that overtakes his body. His core family and friends remain by his side as he begins to lose his hair, sleep, and experience occasional bouts delusion due to chemotherapy. He starts having to ask himself questions that no normal 22-year-old should ask, like “Do I make a will for the future of my family?” Yet, as his daily life is viewed through this lens, McMahon is still is able to joke and remain positive during the worst of it. After months of chemo, his doctors give him two options: Continue chemo or undergo a risky stem-cell operation with stem cells from his sister’s body. He chooses the latter and credits it with his eventual remission and recovery at age 27. “Dear Jack,” directed by Corey Moss and Josh Morrisroe, is a breathtakingly emotional film as well as a testament to family, friends and, perhaps more than anyone will ever know, a love of making music.

The DVD of Dear Jack is available for pre-order from Jack’s Mannequin’s website, JacksMannequin.com now. Those who pre-order will get access to a newly recorded version of “Swim (Music Box)” and an autographed movie poster.

Three theatrical screenings of Dear Jack will also be held for fans and press in October. The film will also be shown at the Landmark Theater in Chicago on October 8th, the IFC Theater in New York City on October 22nd, and a Theater location yet to be confirmed in Los Angeles on October 28th. More details will be released about these events on JacksMannequin.com.
