Two Wounded Birds Debut LP Out Today

“The rebel has a heart after all and maybe he feels more deeply than the rest of us,” says The Drums synth-man, Jacob Graham, in his appraisal of Two Wounded Birds’ debut album. Blending new wave and punchy pop with sepia-toned beaches, Two Wounded Birds arrive with an album that will soundtrack a montage of memories of summer’s lively days, warm nights and romances. The band releases their self-titled album today on Graham’s label, Holiday Friends Recording Company, a newly minted member of the Frenchkiss Label Group.

While under 40 minutes, the album encompasses a broad sweep of rock and roll history, from doo-wop to surf to punk and back to girl pop with numerous other stops on the way, all the while, as JJ Dunning noted in Q, “sounding utterly authentic.” And authenticity is something that Two Wounded Birds poses in spades. Hailing from the faded sea-side town of Margate, the band materialised in an area with a steep history of rock and roll. Hoarding records and exploring the winding history of popular music, it was a fine romantic setting for Johnny Danger to fine-tune his songwriting skills.
