Say Anything “Say Anything”
By this time, we all know Max Bemis is mad at the world. Well, Say Anything’s 7th studio album, Say Anything, isn’t as much of a “FUCK YOU WORLD” as it is a reawakening. Bemis seems to have a smoked piece pipe with the world: “Did you know that there are people in the world/annoyed with all the other people in the world?/And of all these angry people in the world/I am the angriest boy!” Oh wait, just kidding. The album echoes much of the same subject matter as the last two-disc story album, In Defense of the Genre. Though a wonderful lyricist, the listener is reminded that Bemis hates everyone. He drank and smoked away his only semester of college in New York, and he still has Jesus Christ on his shoulder. Say Anything incorporates uplifting melodies, angsty lyrics, and references of self-deprecation. It’s not surprising; it’s what every Say Anything fan was waiting for. Without disappointment, they delivered another album that can be played on repeat and sung at the top of your lungs. Way to go Bemis! Another catchy album to add to the list!
