Death Cab’s Gibbard and Son Volt’s Farrar Pay Respects to the Dead
Thanks to Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, alongside Son Volt’s Jay Farrar, the influential works of American author Jack Kerouac will live on in the form of a 12-track album set for release this October.
The two band frontmen (who had never previously met) became close over the collective writings of Kerouac while recording tracks for a documentary about the prolific author entitled One Fast Move or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur, also set for the same October 20th release date. The album, which boasts the same name as the documentary, has 12 tracks written and recorded by Gibbard and Farrar. Here’s the kicker: the lyrics for each song are Kerouac’s actual words, transcribed from various pieces written over the span of nearly 20 years.
Catch the trailer for the documentary here, and Jay Farrar’s video for “San Francisco”, the haunting closing track of the album, here.
