The Secret Handshake – “My Name Up In Lights” Album Review
I’m a huge fan of 80’s music, anything from the decade, I guarantee that I will love it. When I listened to the first track off of My Name Up In Lights, it gave me the exact vibe that I was hoping for. Luis Dubuc played a wide field of genres, but mixed them together perfectly. He managed to create an 80’s inspired R’n'B/pop/rock record, that WORKS.
The entire album is upbeat, the beats make you want to dance and the lyrics are catchy and bubbly. In TGIF, he makes a shoutout to an aray of shows from the 90’s (Boy Meets World, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air to name a few), allowing us to reminise from times of the past. What’s Wrong has a Justin Timberlake feel to it, in a good, complimentary way. Some songs are about being in love, falling in love, and falling out of love. The lyrics make you re-live personal experiences and shows that he is in love (he actually is, he’s enngaged!!). The songs go through a battle on how to get there.
Dubuc took a different spin for TSH, polishing the sound and trying out new styles. He’s bringing the 80’s back, and he’s making it work. Watch out Justin Timberlake, Luis is coming!
