The Audition’s Self-Titled – Album Review

CD reviews

I remember seeing The Audition about four years ago, they were opening up for The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. To be honest, they were a lot better than Red Jumpsuit; so much better that I ended up leaving two songs into RJA’s set. Since that night, I’ve been a fan of the band, not only for their music, but also of their stage presence and unforgettable energy.

I was looking forward to the release of their new album, I couldn’t wait to listen to the new songs that they created. But, to my disappointment, the album wasn’t all I was hoping it would be. The songs shared man similarities amongst not only themselves, but with songs on previous record. To some, it’s not necesarily a bad thing. But for others, like myself, we like to see the band experience with new sounds and grow from record to record. This doesn’t mean that the songs are bad, because they’re not, it just means that the band are lacking something, which can be very crucial when wanting to maintain a good fanbase.

The songs are up-beat and pop-y, but stil maintain a modern rock twist. Danny Stevens belts out the notes perfectly from his football player frame, while the instruments keep it company.
