Eastscene got the chance to talk to Breathe Carolina while they were hanging out at Bamboozle Left this past weekend in Irvine, California. They put on a super energetic show! Check out their myspace to find out what they are up to and make sure to pick up a copy of their first full length album “Classy, not Classic” in stores now!

Eastscene: How did you come up with the idea of combining electronica and screamo to create your sound?

David: It was kind of like an accident, I guess. I just made a couple of songs on my computer and I already knew what style Kyle was into from previous bands he had played in so I just tried to see where it would go. We just liked it and made more songs. It was more of an accident than trying to come up with a sound.

Eastscene: Do you think that your style separates you from other bands out there right now?

Kyle: I don’t know. I mean, I think that when every band starts they’re doing it to have a good time and down the road it just becomes something different. We’ve just been touring and playing shows so we can’t get too serious about it. We’re just hanging out, chilling and meeting people and having a good time. Nothing necessarily separates us, but I think our sound definitely does and the way that we play live does but I think we’re the same as everybody else.

Eastscene: You guys tour with musicians. Does that create a different group dynamic?

David: Yeah, it’s way different. The live experience is totally different from the album or whatever.

Kyle: We have 3 other people with us on stage. I think it’s way more fun! If it was just us two, it would be okay but I think just having more people it just makes it so that you get to share it with more people so the memory gets bigger, if that makes sense. It’s fun!

Eastscene: Do they take any part in the creative process of your band?

Kyle: They haven’t really done any of the writing, but they kind of add stuff when they want when we play live. For the actual album, it’s David. He produced the whole record.

Eastscene: How do you guys work best when writing songs? Who tends to write lyrics, the music, etc…

David: We both do lyrics. We both come up with ideas.

Kyle: David definitely does 100% of the music writing and I’ll try to put in my input, but for the most part it’s all David. We both do lyrics, and we help each other. David has definitely helped me out a lot with my writing and I’ve probably helped him out a little bit too. We just go with the flow, whatever works! Whatever we feel, it’s kind of a feeling thing.

Eastscene: Is there any dream band/artist that you would love to collaborate with?

David: It would be cool to do stuff with people who aren’t in our type genre. I mean, it would be cool to do a song with Lil Wayne or something. I think that would be funny, you know? (laughs)

Kyle: I think kind of the same thing. It would be cool to do something different like that.

Eastscene: You guys are heading out to Warped tour this summer for the first time. Are you excited?

David: Yeah, definitely. It will be like this, but longer. I feel like it will be more about meeting people. I mean, you meet people here too, but I think that the span of Warped tour is a lot longer so you get to the point where by week end you’ve seen most of the bands so then you’re just hanging out. That’s kind of what I think it will be like. I’m so excited to see what it’s about!

Eastscene: Do you think depending on where you’re playing you get different vibes from different crowds in different cities?

Kyle: Yeah, but I think that’s to be expected. There are probably some places where people don’t really know who we are and then there are some where there’s a lot of kids who have heard of us.

Eastscene: Where is your favorite place to play?

Kyle: Hometown, man! Denver. Always, always!

Eastscene: You guys were recently in Canada for the Take Action Tour…

(They both look at each other, pause…then start to laugh!)

Eastscene: What did you think of Canada?

Kyle: It was sick, we had fun there!

David: Yeah, it was cool. The drinking age is only 19 so we all got a little crazy! (laughs)

Kyle: (laughs) Coming back over the border was a little crazy!

Eastscene: So how old are you guys?

Kyle: I’m 23 and David just turned 21.

Eastscene: Thanks for your time guys. Is there anything you would like to pass along to your fans?

Kyle: Thank you for reading this and come and say hi if you ever see us. We’d love to meet you!
