I’ve always been a fan of This Providence, musically and lyrically, the band always makes beautiful music. Who Are You Now? is a follow up to their self-titled full-length release in 2006. The band have had many lineup changes since, but this album is reassurance that they aren’t going anywhere.
The album keeps the signature sound of the band, singer Dan Young’s unforgettable voice and prominent drum beats, but it’s the lyrics that make the album what it is. They’re profound an meaningful, and easy to illusatrate and image to go along with the story. There’s an easy listening flow, with the perfect balance of upbeat songs and ballads.
Tracks like are Squeaking Wheels and White Lights and That’s a Girl Trick, have a beat that just makes you want to move. The renovated version of My Beautiful Rescue is incredible and gives the original version a run for its money. Chasing The Wind has a hint of Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) and Dan Young’s voice on this track may be the best it sounds on the entire record.
I give this album two big thumbs up!
