The movie Underword: Rise of the Lycans is the third installment of the Underworld films. The soundtrack to this movie is made up of remixes of metal/punk songs and gives original fans of the featured bands a new perspective to their favourite songs. This album features well-known artists like The Cure, Deftones, Alkaline Trio, Thrice as well as less famous artists such as William Control, From First To Last and Drop Dead, Gorgeous.
Personally I have never watched any of the Underworld films, and the soundtrack was not what I expected at all. I was expecting something more exciting and loud (sort of like the Transformers soundtrack); instead the soundtrack was eerie with intense electronic beats with occasionally faster and different themed songs like “Nasty Little Perv” by Perry Farrell and “I Want You To” by Black Light Burns. Alkaline Trio’s “Over And Out (Renholder Remix)” was beautifully done even without half the original instruments. Vocalist Mark Skiba gives a much slower performance than original track with the song’s passionate lyrics. The last track “Steal My Romance” by Ghost On The Radio is one of the three songs on the album that is not a remix. Unlike other tracks, this song starts off with piano and an easy-to-learn chorus.
Ghost On The Radio is a small band from L.A. that only consists of two members and this is their biggest single yet and I think the producers made a good choice including this in the album.I really appreciate how this album combines a variety of different bands in a similar genre so listeners get to know other bands as well. However, some of these remixes are really awkwardly done like From First To Last’s “Tick Tock Tomorrow”.
