Haven’t you heard? Danger Radio is here to have a dance party with you! This Seattle sextet is a blend of all the genre of music that the scene has right now: pop, funk, rock and dance. With all the current bands out there, a different sound like Danger Radio is exactly what we need. After the release of their EP Punch Your Lights Out in 2007 on Photo Finish Records, they came out with the debut album in summer of 2008. The full-length Used & Abused, also released by Photo Finish Records, doesn’t have songs that won’t be catchy enough to make you remember them.
The first track “So Far Gone” starts off the album with stirring drum beats that will get the floor bouncing. In the third track “One More Chance”, with funky bass notes in the beginning and lead singer Andrew de Torres’s unique vocal performance, it will make you feel like you are listening to a song on the radio without realizing you are actually not. The album doesn’t really have “slow” songs like most other albums from bands do. Even their slower track like “Used and Abused” will get your head bobbing and body swaying to the irresistible keyboard tune. The electronic beats in the beginning of “Alive for the First Time” and with a simple, easy to follow chorus like “I’m burning baby burning / Gonna lose my mind / And I feel alive for the first time”, the band’s clearly here to rock your brain out with their tune.
I give this album 4 out of 5 stars. I am definitely looking forward to listen to the band’s mellow stuff (if they will have any, that’s it), maybe something different than their fast poppy sound. I also checked out the band’s acoustic sets online and they are also as impressive without the programming. Danger Radio is going to be big in 2009. Go check out the band here on their MySpace. And definitely check out the band’s cover of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” for a different sound from Andrew!
