UK metalcore and throwdown machines Bring Me the Horizon, or affectionately abbreviated BMTH by fans, will release their 3rd studio album, suitably titled Suicide Season, on November 18th, 2008. Having been two years since their last release, BMTH has come back with a vengeance, proving themselves to be a hardcore and experimental powerhouse.
The album begins with a throaty cry, announcing their eagerness to let it all out, ready to be heard through speakers to the ears of the listener (and soon-to-be admirer). Frontman Oliver Sykes takes a different approach this time around by utilizing his clean vocal abilities to his advantage, accenting his signature growling gutturals and stinging screams. Having formed in 2004, Bring Me the Horizon has matured a great deal since their beginning as a deathcore band. By finding their own style and coming out over the mundane hardcore sound that so many other bands have adopted since the genre’s popularity spike, they are truly a breath of fresh air in today’s scene. Such amazing production on Suicide Season has never been heard from previous BMTH albums, allowing the band to be further recognized for their talent.
Drummer Matt Nicholls pounds on the skins and cymbals like there’s no tomorrow, engaging the listener by fervently awaiting each solid throwdown. Guitarists Lee Malia and Curtis Ward harmonize their parts perfectly without overshadowing each others’ abilities. Matt Kean, bassist, assists in the deliverance of the band’s heavy sound. Bring Me the Horizon brings new instruments and samples from Luis Dubuc (The Secret Handshake) to the table, ensuring a definitely new musical style.
Lyrically, Suicide Season is an obvious winner. Well-written and saturated in ingenuity, the meaning behind the words is a lot heavier than the music itself. With references to police charges and donning themes such as death, love, loss, and repentance, the band has a lot to say, and they say it in a fashionable way.
All in all, the album is a stellar effort, worthy of much praise and listening time due to Bring Me the Horizon’s lyrics, vocals and instrumentals blending beautifully throughout the 11 track disc. The album is available for purchase through Visible Noise in Europe and will be released shortly in North America through Epitaph Records.
