Florida’s own Copeland released their 4th full-length album entitled You Are My Sunshine on Tooth & Nail records this past week. Front man Aaron Marsh and crew deliver 11 tracks, voicing themes of love, loss, and inevitable change. Marsh’s signature vocal range complements the synths and piano parts beautifully without overdoing it while guitarists Bryan and Stephen Laurenson bring the music to a new level with piercing trills and simple melodies, resting just above the pounding percussion of Jonathan Bucklew.
The indie rockers mature musically by incorporating a broader range of instruments, including female accompaniment on more than a few tracks. Lyrically inclined, the band utilizes their profound power to create sincere sentences, which transcend into great songs and more than a fair share of thought provoking lines like “you’d break your neck to keep your chin up”. Copeland does not fail to deliver, despite their current sound being reminiscent of some of their previous works. All in all, it’s a solid album that any fan would appreciate, which maintains their ability to produce earnest songs that get right to your heart. You Are My Sunshine is available in stores and on iTunes now.
